Eagle Watch Golf Club Review
by John Kim
Opened since 1989, Eagle Watch has consistently been named a favorite of golfers in the Atlanta area year in and year out. Though the name
recognition of Arnold Palmer, the course's designer, certainly has a great appeal - the course is equally renowned for it's scenic landscape and the test of golf it offers for players of every ability.
Setting up your round: Tee times can be taken up to a week in advance. Weekday tee times are not as scarce as you would think, and even same day reservations are often possible. Weekends, of course, need to be booked far in advance.
When you arrive: Eagle watch has two putting greens and a driving range to help you warm up for your round. There is a snack bar below the pro shop
and a grill room for outings and more formal meals.
Hole you will love: The par 4 #15. Many will argue that #14 - the signature hole - might be their favorite - but #15 takes your breath from the moment you step on the tee box. Take a second to enjoy the great view from this elevated tee, but focus quickly on the task at hand. You need a good drive to set up your approach, but a long hitter may have to lay off just a bit to
avoid the creek that cuts the fairway.
Hole you won't: #2. A long, narrow par 4, this hole not only plays hard, but subjects you to some cruel bounces that are hard to figure. The landing
area for your drive seems overly small and the landscape feeds towards trouble all around this already well protected and tough to reach green. Some pin placements on this undulating green just leave you scratching your head.
Overview: You will enjoy Eagle Watch. I shot 37 on the front nine while my friend shot...higher. Yet, his take on the course was exactly the same as
mine. The holes lay out in front of you with few surprises, and if you hit the fairway off the tee, you have the chance to score well. My score ballooned on the back nine, but that was my swing...not the course. The course is
exceedingly fair and fun. I can certainly see golfers of all skill levels enjoying this course.
